Medals to third place: if you are missing one (or more), it will be in the shed by Friday.

What, when & where

When? Friday 15th May, Sunday 17th May, Friday 22nd May, Sunday 24th May. Instead of normal training. Starting 6/7pm on Fridays (depending on numbers) and 4.30pm on Sundays

Where? Meadowlands

Cost? Free!

What is the programme?

  • Friday 15th May:
    • 200m fly
    • 800m free
  • Sunday 17th May:
    • 200m IM
    • 200m backstroke
    • 400m free
  • Friday 22nd May:
    • 1500m free
  • Sunday 24th May:
    • 400m IM
    • 200m breaststroke
    • 200m free

Who should enter? Everyone! If you aren’t sure whether your swimmer is capable of a particular event, then talk to one of the coaches. But, in general:

  • we expect everyone to enter the 200m free
  • most people should also be doing one or more of the 200m breaststroke, 200m backstroke and 200m IM. However, if you are new to the club and unsure, do talk to the coach
  • the 200m fly, 400m IM, 800m free and 1500m free will be subject to coach approval. Tick the event(s) as usual; the coaches will review all entries and let you know if we think it would be better to give it a miss this time.
  • If your swimmer is wavering on any event, err in favour of giving it a go. One of the roles of the club championships is to let children experiment with going beyond their comfort zone. They’re an excellent place to make mistakes – not least because it is free!

Volunteers and officials

We will need lots of help! Including six timekeepers for each session. If you are qualified as an official (timekeeper or above), please sign up at https://swim-meet.com/Availability/?m=8950 or email Caroline on taviswimclubcompetitions@gmai.com . If you aren’t yet qualified but are willing to stand at the end of a lane with a stopwatch, we can get you qualified – email Caroline as above.

Awards

There are lots of awards on offer!

  • Medals for 1st to 3rd in each age group (10 & under, 11/12, 13/14, 15/16 and 17 & over: age as at 31st Dec 2026).
  • The highest scorer in each age group wins a trophy, awarded at the Presentation Event in September. Scoring is based on place in each event, added across all the events: four points for 1st, three for 2nd, two for 3rd and one for 4th. To be in with a chance, enter as many events at possible!
  • For 12 & unders, speed certificates will be awarded for achieving certain times, regardless of where you place: see here for more info
  • If you are 12 or under you also have another chance to bag a Texaco medal for completing four or more events, if you didn’t get one at the sprint club championships. You can add events done then to events done here to reach the total.
