Devon County Championships 2026

If this is your first time thinking about these, then congratulations! Getting a county time is a big deal: Devon is a large county, with some high quality swimming clubs, so the standards are challenging.

It is such a big deal, that if you get a place to swim in the event (see more below), we give you a swimming hat with “Devon Qualifier” on the side.

Information

What? The clue’s in the name: these are the age group championships for the whole of Devon.

When? January 11th – February 1st. The timetable is here (or scroll down for it in image form).

Where? Plymouth Life Centre, 50m pool.

Meet pack? Here.

Entering

Who? To be eligible, you need to have achieved a consideration time in your event in a licensed gala since 1st March 2025.

  • The consideration times are listed in the chart below (or click here for a spreadsheet).
    • Look in the column for your age at the end of 2026. Which will be a year older than you are now or, if you have a late birthday, two years.
  • OR – and easier – log-in to Club Organiser and scroll down to below the calendar. If you are eligible you will see an entry button; it will bring up only the relevant events.

Closing date? Monday 15th December. No extensions. If you achieve a qualifying time in the PL Xmas meet on weekend 13/14th December, email me immediately on taviswimclubcompetitions@gmail.com

How? Enter via Club Organiser in the usual way.

Cost? £9.35 per event (includes our 10% surcharge for poolside costs)

What then? Getting a consideration time entitles you to enter but doesn’t guarantee you a place. If there are too many entrants, the organisers will omit or “scratch” the slowest. I’ll email you as soon as the list of accepted entrants is published.

Other things to know

50m pool The event takes place in a 50m pool. We’ll be holding some training sessions over the Christmas period in the 50m pool at Mount Kelly to give you some experience of this.

Swim England membership You will need to renew your SE membership as “Club Compete”, rather than “Club Train” to be eligible to take part.

Heats and finals Unlike ordinary galas, except for the long distance events (400m and longer) the results aren’t determined purely by your time in your heat. Instead, the fastest eight in each age group go forward to a final, where they swim against each other rather than for time. That’s what the “H” and “F” on the timetable refer to. When you’ve swum your heat, don’t go home until you’ve checked whether you’ve made the final.

Merchandise If you want to get your swimmer some merchandise (cap/ hoodie/ T-shirt), here’s the link: Devons 2026 merchandise . Unfortunately I can’t tell you when I’ll get the list of confirmed entries. Between Christmas and New Year is my best guess.
